The Apollo Murders Customer Reviews

:
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from William de Rham -- The Cold War in space. : I am really, really enjoying this historical/adventure novel about the Apollo program and a fictional military mission to earth orbit and the moon in the midst of the Cold War. Fans of works like Tom Wolfe’s “The Right Stuff” and Andrew Chaikin’s “A Man on the Moon,” or the films based on those works, or films like “Apollo 13” and “Space Cowboys” are in for a treat. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Helene Hadfield -- A Rollicking Great Ride by a Fantastic Story Teller : From the opening chapter until the end you will feel like you are in the middle of a blockbuster movie. Warning: Once hooked you will not want to put it down! ( Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Taxvictim -- Very good thriller with lots of techie details about space travel. : I was surprised how well Cmdr. Hadfield was able to produce a thrilling narrative, while at the same time revealing many small technical details of space travel and the Apollo program. I had issue with some editorial decisions to use very recent styling on a PC subject in a book set in 1973, only because that caused me to instantly snap out of my reader's trance each time they did it. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Steve T. Jurvetson -- An amazing alt-history of Apollo crafted into a sci-fi thriller by an astronaut hero : I read a pre-release copy and loved it! Apollo Murders is an alternate history of Apollo 18, written by an incredible polymathic astronaut — so it has the engineering detail of The Martian set in the Apollo era, minus the mistakes. It is much more compelling than the alternative Apollo history seen in Apple TV’s For All Mankind. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2021 )
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from captainramius -- Really nice but many loose ends : I read an advance copy of this book and found it to be well written and very entertaining... up to a certain point. Most of the ending was rushed, discombobulated, and left MANY loose ends. It does have all the hallmarks of a story that will be turned into a movie and if that's the case I sincerely hope the screenwriter does a better job in wrapping up the plot. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Dr Brian Keating -- Imagine if Neil Armstrong was as good a fiction writer as an astronaut! :  I listened to the audio version and kept thinking “I Can’t wait to see this on the big screen!” ( Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Jim Brumm -- A fun read : Lots of action, lots of fun. A crazy what-if story that takes the reader back to the heady days of the Cold War, spies, intrigue, and the mighty Apollo space program. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 18, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Amazon Customer -- Must-read thriller! : I couldn't put this book down! Hadfield writes a killer story with twists and turns I didn't see coming and kept me guessing until the very end. Thrillers are my favorite genre and Hadfield totally delivers on every front! An absolutely awesome book that I would highly recommend. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 18, 2021 )
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Vulcanbomberboy -- Good read. : This well written novel kept me thinking back to the possibilities of this happening back during the Cold War. I loved the way real life astronauts were inter woven into the action. The characters of Kaz and Svetlana were very life like. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 19, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Carolyn -- Informative, exciting, packed with action, suspense, science and history : This was an exciting, thrill-packed Cold War thriller. Its author, Chris Hadfield, imparts his extraordinary knowledge and experience, bringing atmosphere, authenticity, and credibility to the plot. The gripping, action-packed story is infused with science, technology, politics, espionage, space history, murder, and intrigue with vividly drawn believable characters. • 1.0 out of 5 stars from Graham Sharp Paul -- Great Technical Detail But . . . : . . . if that is what excites you, go read a user manual. As a work of fiction, it is laboured and overly fond of “telling not showing”, often in big chunks of detail. As for the plot, fatuous is the word that comes to mind. It reminds me of Bear Grylls’ efforts, another who was convinced fame and expertise in one field guaranteed success as an author. It doesn’t. ( Reviewed in Australia on October 18, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from tim stoddart -- Great read : A page turner all the way, very well written. Hope to see more in the future from colonel Chris hadfield ( Reviewed in Canada on October 17, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Graham Carter -- Excellent read : This book was absorbing so time passed too quickly. Lots of action. Well written. Worth your time to read this ( Reviewed in France on October 19, 2021 )
